Learn how these individuals and families transformed their lives by doing more that matters. We invite you to share a story about you or someone you know who is doing more that matters.
Dr. Jay Merriam, DVM, and his wife Shelly relocated to Colorado to be nearer to their children and grandchildren and purchased a home in a wonderful mountain community there. Jay is devoting his time and equine veterinarian expertise to helping families in developing countries care for their working equids – horses, mules, and donkeys. These animals are essential to their owners’ livelihood as they fulfill agricultural, commerce, or transportation purposes. The Merriam’s story is a powerful example of how “retirement” is being redefined.
Mike and Julie* own a local engineering firm that designs, manufactures, and consults on highly specialized equipment. Their goal was to build a plan that could allow them to pull away from their company in the years to come, “retiring” without having to depend on the business as their primary financial resource.
Beyond harvesting liquidity, we helped them think bigger about their legacy planning. After seeing the math, Mike got highly energized in our office one day with the idea of setting up their own family charity. As the light bulb turned on around this new possibility, the couple began laying out plans to focus on their lifelong passion for teaching and coaching.

With compelling visions and inspiring leadership, each of these men has directly impacted thousands of students and their families – transforming their lives and futures.
