Children, women and men face the reality of modern slavery, exploitation and abuse every day because people in power prey on the vulnerabilities that poverty creates. We’re on a mission to partner with local communities to build a more just world where everyone can expect to be safe and protected.
Motivated by our faith in Jesus, we work in some of the world’s toughest places on earth empowering children, families, and their communities out of poverty. Because of our community-focused solutions, for every child you help, four more children benefit, too!

Learn how these individuals and families transformed their lives by doing more that matters. We invite you to share a story about you or someone you know who is doing more that matters.
Dr. Jay Merriam, DVM, and his wife Shelly relocated to Colorado to be nearer to their children and grandchildren and purchased a home in a wonderful mountain community there. Jay is devoting his time and equine veterinarian expertise to helping families in developing countries care for their working equids – horses, mules, and donkeys. These animals are essential to their owners’ livelihood as they fulfill agricultural, commerce, or transportation purposes. The Merriam’s story is a powerful example of how “retirement” is being redefined.
Mike and Julie* own a local engineering firm that designs, manufactures, and consults on highly specialized equipment. Their goal was to build a plan that could allow them to pull away from their company in the years to come, “retiring” without having to depend on the business as their primary financial resource.
Beyond harvesting liquidity, we helped them think bigger about their legacy planning. After seeing the math, Mike got highly energized in our office one day with the idea of setting up their own family charity. As the light bulb turned on around this new possibility, the couple began laying out plans to focus on their lifelong passion for teaching and coaching.
In the midst of ongoing efforts to improve public school education in Providence, RI – and throughout the nation – two men have quietly and persistently dedicated themselves to creating new models that epitomize both sacrifice and success.
Brother Lawrence Goyette is the founder and executive director of the San Miguel School, an independent, Lasallian middle school for urban boys of all cultures and faiths from the Greater Providence area.
Dan Corley is the founder and head of school at Community Preparatory School, focused on students from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds, particularly those who otherwise would not have access to such a rigorous, private education. With compelling visions and inspiring leadership, each of these men has directly impacted thousands of students and their families – transforming their lives and futures.
If you, someone you know, or a charity you support, is shining light and doing good, please share the story with us. We call this sharing the love!
